Best chastity cage for men: for beginners and for long-term wear
For a first chastity cage, pick a light plastic or silicone cage with several base rings, such as the XR Brands Hard Stop or a 9 cm ManCage, because you can try different fits and the cage forgives small mistakes. For long-term wear, move to a cage you already know fits: soft silicone if comfort comes first, stainless steel with an internal lock if you want something discreet, hygienic and hard to tamper with. Size matters more than material: the right ring and length decide whether you can wear a cage for an hour or for a weekend.
Below we compare cages from our chastity cages and steel chastity cages sections and cover measuring, locks, cleaning and safe wearing times.
The best chastity cages by situation
- Best first cage overall: XR Brands Hard Stop. Sold as a starter cage, with four rings from 1.6 to 2 inches inner diameter, vents and a hole at the tip for urinating without unlocking.
- Best for finding your size: ManCage Model 01, 9 cm. The smallest cage in the range, with a choice of rings and spacers, a metal padlock and tie-wrap locks.
- Best soft cage for nervous beginners: XR Brands Dark Chamber. Black silicone around a slightly firmer silicone skeleton, so it keeps a cage shape without a hard shell on sensitive skin.
- Best for all-day wear under clothes: ManCage Model 20, 9 cm. Supple silicone, five rings plus spacers, vents and a toilet opening; the maker says to take it off before bed.
- Best for well endowed men: ManCage Model 06, 14 cm. The longest polycarbonate cage in the range, for men who find shorter cages press and pinch.
- Best first steel cage: XR Brands Forged Captor. Nickel-free stainless steel, three graduated rings, an open tip with drainage holes, and it works with every type of lube.
- Best for long-term lock-up: XR Brands Rikers 24-7. Compact steel with an internal lock, so no padlock hangs at the front to show through trousers.
- For experienced keyholders only: Steel The Pleasure Dome. Blunt inner spikes that bite once arousal starts and a removable, lockable 7 mm penis plug with a pee hole.

Steel, silicone or plastic
Plastic (polycarbonate and ABS) is light and rigid. A rigid cage gives the clearest feeling of being locked, and the low weight means less pull on the skin behind the balls. Transparent versions let a keyholder check the fit without opening anything. Plastic is the easiest material for learning your size.
Silicone is the most comfortable for long hours. It moves with the body, does not get cold and is quiet under clothes. The trade-off is that a soft cage is less strict than a rigid one.
Stainless steel is non-porous, easy to clean thoroughly and lasts for years. It is heavier, which some men like as a constant reminder and others find tiring. Steel cages often come with fewer rings, so measure carefully. Choose nickel-free steel if your skin reacts to metal.
How to choose the right size
Base ring
The base ring sits behind the balls, around shaft and scrotum, and carries the whole cage. Measure the circumference there when you are completely soft and warm, not after a cold shower, and divide by 3.14 for the diameter. Our cock ring and chastity size calculator does the sum for you.
A ring that fits lets you slide a fingertip under it. Too tight shows as swelling, a dark or cold colour or tingling within minutes. Too loose and the cage pulls off or skin slips through the gap. If you have never worn a ring, start with one from our cock ring guide to learn your size before you buy a cage.
Cage length
Choose a cage about as long as your soft penis, or slightly shorter. A cage that is too long lets the head slide back and forth, which chafes and makes it easy to pull out. One that is much too short presses the head against the tip and pinches.
Gap and spacers
The distance between ring and cage matters as much as the ring. ManCage spacers let you set that gap: too large and skin gets trapped, too small and the cage presses into the base. The ManCage Spare Ring Set fits Models 01 to 06 if you lose a part.
Locks: padlock, tie-wrap or internal lock
- Padlocks are simple and strong, but hang at the front and can rattle.
- Tie-wrap or plastic locks, included with ManCage cages, are single-use and do not set off metal detectors. You cut them off at release, so they also show whether the cage was opened.
- Internal locks, as on the Rikers 24-7, sit inside the hinge. Discreet and hard to pick, but keep the spare key somewhere safe and reachable.
There must always be a way out in an emergency. Keep a spare key or a set such as the ManCage Spare Lock, and agree in advance where it is kept.
How long can you wear a chastity cage
Build up slowly: one or two hours at home, then an evening, then a full day. Take the cage off at night for the first weeks, because night erections push against it while you are asleep. Only when a cage has fitted comfortably for full days without marks, swelling or numbness should you sleep in it or wear it for several days.
Remove the cage at once if you notice:
- numbness, tingling or a cold feeling
- dark, blue or very pale skin
- swelling that does not go down
- pain beyond mild pressure
- sores, broken skin or a rash under the ring
Consent and safety with a keyholder
Agree on the length of the lock-up, a safeword and a way for the wearer to ask for release without it counting as failure. The keyholder opens the cage immediately when the safeword is used or something feels wrong. Never lock a cage on someone who is drunk, and never leave a locked partner without access to a key. For combinations with ball weights or stretchers, read our guide to humblers, ball crushers and ball weights first.
Hygiene and cleaning
During longer wear, rinse through the vents and tip with warm water and mild soap in the shower, dry well and check the skin under the ring every day. Take the cage off at least every few days to wash everything properly. Clean the cage with warm water and a toy cleaner; steel can also be boiled once it is off.
A thin layer of water-based lube helps when putting the cage on, especially through the base ring. It suits every material here; do not use oil or silicone lube on a silicone cage.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best chastity cage for a beginner?
A light plastic or silicone cage with several rings, such as the XR Brands Hard Stop or the ManCage Model 01 in 9 cm. Several rings let you find your size without buying a second cage.
Is a steel or a plastic chastity cage better?
Plastic is lighter and best for learning your fit. Steel lasts longer, is the most hygienic and is harder to tamper with, which makes it the better choice once you know your size.
How do I know which ring size I need?
Measure the circumference behind your balls when soft and warm and divide by 3.14. A fingertip should fit under the ring. Swelling, tingling or a dark colour mean it is too tight.
Can I sleep in a chastity cage?
Not at first. Night erections press hard against the cage. Wait until it has fitted comfortably for full days, and remove it at once if you wake with pain or numbness.
How long can you wear a chastity cage?
Start with an hour or two and build up to an evening and a full day. Longer periods are only for a cage that fits well, with daily skin checks and regular cleaning.
Can I pee while wearing a chastity cage?
Yes, with most cages. The ManCage models, the Hard Stop and the Forged Captor have a urination opening or an open tip. Sit down, rinse afterwards and dry the cage.
