Electro stimulation for men: e-stim cock rings, plugs and wands explained

Opdateret 2. november 2026

For a first try at electro stimulation, choose a power unit with two separate channels and a set of pads and cock loops, such as the ElectraStim Flick Duo Multi-Pack, and start on the lowest level. Want one toy without cables? An e-stim plug or prostate massager with built-in pulses is the easiest way in. Whatever you choose, electro play stays below the waist: never across the chest, and not at all if you have a pacemaker.

Below we compare power units, electrodes and all-in-one toys from our electro stimulation section.

What e-stim does

E-stim sends small TENS-style pulses through the skin, shaped for pleasure. They make nerves fire and muscles contract, which feels like tingling, tapping or a deep rhythmic squeeze, depending on the pattern and where the electrodes sit. It does not hurt by default: on low levels it is a warm tingle, and the man receiving it decides how far it goes. Around the cock, balls and prostate it can feel like being stroked from the inside, a good match for edging and chastity.

Power units, channels and bipolar toys

The power unit

Most electro toys are electrodes only and need a power unit, also called a stimulator or power box, to create the pulses. Look for two isolated channels, so you can run different levels on two zones or share control with a partner. ElectraStim electrodes connect to ElectraStim units, and adapter kits fit power boxes from other makers. All-in-one toys have the unit built in.

Bipolar and unipolar

A bipolar toy carries both poles on one electrode, separated by an insulating strip, so one toy on one channel completes the circuit. Unipolar electrodes, such as most pads and cock loops, carry one pole each: you use two on the same channel and the current flows through the body between them. That lets you steer it, for example from a loop at the base of the cock to a pad on the perineum. Keep both electrodes of a channel close together and below the waist.

The best e-stim toys by situation

  • Best starter kit: ElectraStim Flick Duo Multi-Pack. A dual-channel unit with eight patterns and 25 intensity levels, four pads, two adjustable ElectraLoops cock rings and an anal electrode in one box.
  • Best unit with app control: ElectraStim Linx. Dual output and 23 built-in patterns, plus an optional app with modes such as Flick and Tilt; four pads are included.
  • Best pads for perineum and shaft: ElectraStim Long Adhesive Pads. Four slim pads of 75 by 15 mm for narrow areas, reusable up to six times by the same person.
  • Best for focused genital play: ElectraStim Bipolar Electric Clamp. ABS with conductive silicone pads; bipolar, so it works alone on one channel.
  • Best e-stim butt plug: ElectraStim Midi Electro Butt Plug. Aluminium with an acrylic isolator strip, about 7 cm insertable and about 13 cm around at the widest point.
  • Best plug with cock ring: Ouch E-stim Vibrating Butt Plug Cockring. Vibration, electro pulses and a flexible ring around cock and balls in one silicone toy, 11.5 cm insertable, with a remote.
  • Best e-stim prostate massager: ElectroShock E-Stim Vibrating Prostate Massager. Ten vibration speeds and two electro zones in silicone, 9 cm insertable; the electro only works when both ribbed parts touch the skin.
  • Best remote e-stim cock ring: XR Brands Cock Shock. A velcro strap around cock and balls and a wireless remote for shock, vibration, sound and light from up to 80 feet away. For experienced players.
  • Best wand: XR Brands Deluxe Edition Twilight Wand. A glow wand with five glass electrodes, each with its own light and feel, that you touch to the skin.
  • For electro CBT: XR Brands Exposed E-Stim Humbler. A lockable wooden humbler for 4 mm leads, with adapters available for 2 mm; it needs a separate power box.
  • The gel you need: ElectraStim Conductive Gel. Clear, odourless and non-staining, for external electrodes; a pea-sized amount per contact is enough.

Cock rings and loops

Conductive loops, such as the two ElectraLoops in the Flick Duo Multi-Pack, adjust to size and work as a pair on one channel: one at the base of cock and balls, one just below the head, so the current runs along the shaft. Fit them snug, with room for a finger, and take them off when the skin turns cold, dark or numb. Our cock ring guide covers fit and wearing times. All-in-one rings such as the Cock Shock need no separate unit and are made for a partner who holds the remote.

Plugs and prostate probes

Internal electrodes feel deeper than pads, because the current reaches the pelvic floor and the prostate. Choose a size you already take comfortably without e-stim: the muscles contract around the toy, so a plug that is just manageable feels much bigger once it is switched on. Use plenty of water-based lube from lube and care on internal electrodes; the ElectraStim gel is for external contacts only. New to the prostate? Find it first with our prostate massage guide for beginners and a toy from prostate massagers, then add a current.

Urethral e-stim

Urethral sounds with electro contacts exist, but only for men with experience in both sounding and e-stim. Everything has to be sterile, and the current works directly on the inside. Learn sounding first with our urethral sounds, then add e-stim at the lowest level.

Conductive gel and lube

Self-adhesive pads carry their own gel layer. Loops, clamps and metal contacts need conductive gel: without it the current crowds into a few points and stings, with it the sensation spreads evenly. Do not use massage oil or silicone lube on electrodes, because they do not conduct.

The intensity ladder

  • Start at zero. Connect everything with the unit off, then switch on at the lowest level.
  • Find the threshold. Raise one channel slowly until he feels the first tingle, then go one step back.
  • Wait before you climb. The body gets used to a pattern; go up one step only when the feeling fades.
  • Change the pattern first. A slow pulse feels very different from a fast buzz at the same level.
  • Turn down before you move. Lower the level before you shift an electrode, and switch off before you disconnect.
  • The receiver decides. Agree on a safeword and turn everything to zero the moment it is said.

Stop at once if it turns sharp, burning or painful in a way you did not choose.

Who should not use e-stim

  • Pacemaker: never use e-stim with a pacemaker.
  • Other implants, heart conditions or epilepsy: ask a doctor before you try it.
  • Above the waist: never place electrodes above the waist, across the chest or on the neck or head. Nipple clamps stay without current.
  • Water, alcohol and sleep: not in the bath or shower, not when drunk or high, never while asleep and never on broken skin.

Cleaning and care

  • Switch off and disconnect before you clean anything.
  • Wash plugs, loops and clamps with warm water and a toy cleaner, keep water away from sockets and the unit, and dry fully.
  • Put pads back on their backing film and keep one set per person.
  • Check cables and connectors before every session and replace anything damaged.

Frequently asked questions

Does e-stim hurt?

Not by default. On low levels it feels like tingling, tapping or a rhythmic squeeze. It only turns sharp when you go up too fast or use small contacts without gel.

What do I need to start with electro stimulation?

A power unit, electrodes and conductive gel. A starter set such as the ElectraStim Flick Duo Multi-Pack has a dual-channel unit, pads, two cock loops and an anal electrode.

What is the difference between bipolar and unipolar e-stim toys?

A bipolar toy has both poles on one electrode and works alone on one channel. Unipolar pads and loops have one pole each, so you use two per channel.

Can I use e-stim on my prostate?

Yes, with an internal electrode or an e-stim prostate massager on a low level. Use water-based lube and a size you already take comfortably without current.

Who should not use electro stimulation?

Nobody with a pacemaker. With another implant, a heart condition or epilepsy, ask a doctor first. Never use it above the waist, across the chest, in water or after alcohol or drugs.

How do I clean e-stim toys?

Switch off and disconnect, wash electrodes with warm water and a toy cleaner, keep water away from sockets and the unit, and dry everything before you store it.
